Autopilot#607

B

Is it supposed to change trim settings? For example, if i trim manually to say 30% up elevator, and then I go on auto Level, is it supposed to ALSO change trim setting elevator to whatever it takes to get to level? That is, are we supposed to see changes to the trim settings in the vechicle status window? Because for some of us, those changes are displayed, for some those are not. For me, it is inconsistent. Sometimes they are, sometiemes they are not. I believe the autopilot shuld actualy change the trim settings and once autoplot is engaged the plane SHOULD maintain those settings. Otherwise, once one disengages say level autopilot, if it was not trimmed manually to level, plane will start nosing up/down, with unwanted consequences. Can we fix?

Yes. When autopilot is engaged it uses whatever trim is needed to do what its told to go. Wen autopilot is disengaged it WILL STAY at the value it was IN the autopilot UNLESS you have an ANALOG TRIM WHEEL telling it to be at a different setting. IF that is the case, it will go back to the trim settings that you have set by your analog wheel. There is no way to get around this as we cannot ignore the inputs you have told the game it needs to follow on your analog input device (joystick).

I don’t believe you undestood what I meant HATCH. Sometimes autopilot will actually change settings in the trim box itself. Say I press auto level, then the inputs on the trim box will change accordingly. Sometimes they wont. In both instances the plane will, as it should FLY LEVEL, auto LEVEL. Yet, in the case where inputs are not refelected in the trim box (by that I mean the huge box at the left of the screen with all vechicle info) then once AUTO LEVEL is disengaged, plane does nose up/down, depending on previous trim. If, on the other hand it changes settings in the box, then plane remains level. So, NO, it is NOT acting as it should. It acts in UNPREDICTABLE ways. Sometimes as it should (i.e. maintains trim even after one disengages it) sometimes it just does not. I will try to guide you step by step as to how to reproduce problematic behavior. Only now, for some odd reason, it started to behave as it should lately. In other words the trim is reflected in the box. So it no longer affects me, but I am sure it affects many that are not aware of it.

just to add to this: FW is the only plane where Autopliot (any of them i.e Speed, Level, Angle) does NOT affect in any way the Elevator Trim settings. This is the core of this bug.

Found issue and addressed it. Did best to smooth out auto as best as able a on the FW’s and P38f/322’s at this point. Still best not to use it if pointed at the ground or going faster than Vne. Will check back after 2026 roadmap completed and we have some more breathing room.
