What more proof do you need that your wing break damage model is ridiculously bad. P38s had very strong wings, and would have NEVER EVER broken just from setting auto pilot.
PLEASE JUST GET RID OF WING BREAKING UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT!
The auto pilot works by adjusting your trim values that are in the box that is typically in the upper left corner. If those values are extreme when turning on your AP that is going to happen. You need to be flying sorta level without holding your joystick to make the plane level for the AP to not kick you around like it did.
A) It would not be an exaggeration for me to say I’ve used autopilot hundreds of times, so I’m pretty familiar with how it works.
B) Suggesting that extreme values for autopilot settings will break a wing off when activating it “is going to happen” as if its historically accurate (it isn’t) or even remotely acceptable flight/damage modeling (it isn’t) is ludicrous.
C) I get the impression you didn’t bother watching the video, because if you did you would have seen that I was “flying sorta level”, and was in fact very level.
D) You entirely missed the point: a P38 Lightning (or any WW2 fighter) breaking a wing off simply from AP being engaged indicates a serious issue with wing damage modeling and needs to be addressed.
I appreciate your intent to help, but non chalantly excusing such terrible game design doesn’t help me (I don’t really need any) and it especially doesnt help CRS improve the quality of game play within WW2OL.
Best wishes and see you out there.
We were testing killing tigers/panthers with basically all allied planes for probably 5 hours yesterday. Pulling insane moves on 90 degree dives at speed and pulling out. We never broke a wing. I wouldnt think this is a wing stress issue. We never use autopilot so cannot comment on that.
Obviously some extreme inconsistency then. Try pulling hard in a Hurricane Mk1, you will break a wing for sure…at least for sure in the free to play version.
Why can someine pull insane moves out of steep dives without breaking a wing, but a wing will break off simply from setting autopilot? Clearly the wing break model is terrible and needs to be fixed…and IMO should be removed from the game until then since wings break for no real reason.
guide to not rip your wings:
1) get better
2) press ` on keyboard
3) look at your G at top left corner of screen and dont pull more than 8-9g in hurri. 10g for fast boomnzoom planes
4) profit!!!!!!!!!
2 parts to this puzzle. 1) I’m still getting sorted out with some of the idiosyncrasies of the PID controlled autopilot. Primarily, it’s instant application. Did some fine tuning on the FW’s and P38F/322 for this next patch and will re-visit and apply what we can to the rest as I able. 2) even with those, if you are going faster than Vne, or (“velocity never exceed,”), you really shouldnt use it. I’ve made notes for a dev revisit to possibly make it where it wont turn on if above Vne, or some other limiting paradigm. For the near future, dont use it unless slower than 350 400 IAS…
