British SMG#735

I’m playing 90% Axis, so I believe I can compare the units. I also noticed there was one post about it 3 years ago and got closed. So I’m trying to put that out there again.

I know the tommy gun was a crappy smg, but why did CRS chose it? it was the cadillac under the guns and way underperforming vs the MG40. The normal gun the Brits had was the Tommy gun (Sten Mk II) and this gud was as good up to 100m (or yards) as the MG40. And that SMG should be in the game.

Now I’m aware that it’s not easy to put in a new weapon into the game. So why not simply change the same from M1928 Thompson to Sten Mk II? And adjust the setting, so it maches the Sten? I assume no one really cares.

Since SMG’s are one of the most important weapons in game, this would also help the Allies maybe win another map and some might even come back. Just a thought.

@parasit I wouldn’t say this is a bug report (more of a question/suggestion), but to extend an olive branch in an effort to create better communications, I would say the following:

1) The M1928 Thompson SMG was added to the game because it was historically accurate and utilized.

2) The Sten Mk II has been ingame for some years now and becomes available as the war progresses on in its corresponding tier “in-service” date. If I remember correctly it takes the place of several M1928’s.

3) There’s a dramatic difference between the two SMGs, the M1928 being a .45 ACP (which has a significant recoil) and a high rate of fire. The Sten Mk II fires a 9mm parabellum (much smaller recoil) and a slower rate of fire (which improves accuracy). The thompson was considered a bush/room cleaner where the Sten was more short-medium engagement distances.

4) Adding a new infantry weapon isn’t just “not easy” to do, it is not possible to do as of this writing due to not having the adequate animator staffing required to fulfill it.

There’s no plan to do anything with this ticket beyond this response, as it has been mostly fulfilled already. I hope this was informative. S!

THe interesting part anout the Thompson M1928 (also called the Cadillac) and the Sten Mk II ( also called the The “Plumber’s” Pipe) is that the Sten was more common in WWII as it was cheaper to produce. And the Tompson failed in dirty conditions and was heavier on top. So wouldn’t it make sense that the Sten would be cheaper in-game than the Tompson and also be awailable earlier?

Finally, let us not forget this is a game and it needs to be balanced. You, yourself mention multiple times, the Allies have to win maps otherwise it will become a problem. Well, in my humble opinion, this is a cheap option in getting in some ballance. Even is not entirely historically accurate, as the Sten was less presise then the Thompson. But Allied players tell me the Sten is better in this game.

Maybe as a thought, ask COs or HCs about what they are thinking about this.

Finally, I’m more on an Axis player then an Allied player. But playing Allied side, it really feels unbalanced. Yes, there are other issues, but this would be an easy fix.

One more point. It is so bad, Allies don’t even defend French towns anymore, cause you can’t use the weapons.
