This proposal does not replace the existing 105mm fragmentation model and is not intended
simply to increase artillery lethality. The objective is to retain the existing physical fragment
simulation while introducing a second, independent radial damage layer whose damage scales
continuously with distance from the point of detonation.
Testing of the current system has demonstrated a recurring artifact: a 105mm shell can
detonate only a few meters from exposed infantry and cause zero damage because none of the
finite modeled fragments intersect the character. During group testing, infantry along particular
fragment trajectories were killed while other soldiers equally close—or closer—to the burst
remained completely unaffected.
The proposed radial layer addresses those gaps without altering the existing fragment
simulation.
