A breech block is a key component of a firearm or artillery gun that closes the rear end (breech) of the barrel after a shell or round is loaded. It seals the chamber, allowing the gun to fire safely and effectively by containing the explosive force of the propellant. Without a breech block, this pressure would explode backwards into the crew compartment.
To see the panther tank’s NON-EXISTANT breech block, go to the gunner’s position and raise the gun to the highest elevation.
